Women'S Giving Circle Accepting Grant Applications

George and Barbara Phaneuf of Batesville, Ind., have been giving back to the community for more than 50 years, and in 2023, they'll be giving more than half their money to charity.

Their donation to the Women's Giving Circle at the Ripley County Community Foundation was announced at the group's annual luncheon last week, the Times of Northwest Indiana reports.

The Phaneufs say they were moved by the plight of women and children in their community, and they wanted to do their part to change that.

"The average woman invests 80 cents into her family," Amy Streator, executive director of the foundation, says in a press release.

"Therefore, investing women's money stops it from spreading to the next generation."

The Phaneufs say their donation will go toward the Women's Giving Circle's "Women in Philanthropy Luncheon" on April 18 at Ertel Cellars, where attendees will hear from Allison Barber, chief operating officer of the Indiana Fever, and decide which projects and programs to support in 2023.

More than $6,000 in grants will be awarded.

Individual Women's Giving Circle memberships are available for $100, where 75% of the gift will be granted in 2023 and the remaining will be placed into the Phane
